This Cookie Policy explains how Robotics Education & Competition Foundation ("RECF," "we," "us," or "our") uses cookies and similar browser storage (collectively, "Cookies") when you visit RECFEvents.org (the "Site").
RECFEvents.org uses a small number of Cookies. They sign you in, keep your forms secure, and remember choices you make, such as dark or light mode. We do not use advertising Cookies, and we do not sell or share the information we store.
This Cookie Policy should be read together with the RECF Privacy Policy (https://www.recf.org/privacy-policy) and the RECF Terms of Service (https://recf.org/terms-of-service).
1. WHAT ARE COOKIES?
Cookies are small text files stored by your browser when you visit a website. They allow a website to recognize your browser, keep you signed in, and remember your preferences.
The Site may also use similar browser technologies, such as local storage and session storage, which store small amounts of information in your browser. References to "Cookies" in this Policy include these technologies.
2. WHY WE USE COOKIES
We use Cookies to:
- Sign you in and keep you signed in while you use the Site;
- Keep your forms secure and protect against fraudulent or malicious requests;
- Remember choices you make, such as dark or light mode;
- Remember your cookie consent choice; and
- Where you have given consent, understand how the Site is used so we can improve it.
We do not use Cookies for advertising, and we do not sell or share the information our Cookies store.
3. TYPES OF COOKIES WE USE
A. Strictly Necessary Cookies
These Cookies are required for the Site to work and cannot be turned off through the cookie banner. They are used to:
- Sign you in and maintain your session;
- Keep forms secure;
- Remember your cookie consent choice; and
- Support the security and reliable operation of the Site.
Without these Cookies, you may not be able to sign in, register for events, or complete other parts of the Site.
B. Preference Cookies
Preference Cookies remember choices you make on the Site, such as dark or light mode, so you do not have to set them again on each visit. They are used only to provide the setting you selected. If you clear them, the Site will return to its default settings.
C. Analytics Cookies
We do not currently use analytics Cookies. If we add them in the future, we will ask for your consent before they are set and will update this Policy.
Analytics Cookies help us understand how visitors use the Site, such as which pages are visited and whether errors occur, so we can improve it. Analytics Cookies are set only if you give consent through the cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time.
D. Advertising Cookies
We do not use advertising Cookies.
4. COOKIES AND STORAGE ON THE SITE
The cookies page lists the Cookies and browser storage used on the Site.
5. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
Some features of the Site are provided by other companies:
- Maps. Maps on event pages are drawn by Microsoft Azure Maps. Your browser loads them from Microsoft, so Microsoft receives your IP address when a map is shown.
- Sign-in. Signing in is handled by Microsoft. When you sign in, you are on Microsoft's pages, and any Cookies Microsoft sets are covered by Microsoft's own policies.
- Payments. Card payments are handled by Stripe. When you pay, you are on Stripe's pages, and any Cookies Stripe sets are covered by Stripe's own policies.
We do not control Cookies set by these providers. Please review their privacy and cookie policies for more information.
6. INFORMATION COLLECTED THROUGH COOKIES
Depending on the Cookie, the information stored or collected may include:
- A session or sign-in identifier;
- Security tokens used to protect forms;
- Your saved preferences, such as dark or light mode;
- Your cookie consent choice; and
- Where you have consented to analytics, information about pages visited, browser and device type, and errors encountered.
In addition, when your browser loads content from a third-party service (such as a map), that service receives standard technical information such as your IP address.
7. YOUR COOKIE CHOICES
Cookie Banner
When you first visit the Site, a banner asks for your choice about Cookies that need consent. Only analytics and advertising Cookies require consent, and we do not use advertising Cookies. Strictly necessary and preference Cookies are used without asking because the Site needs them to work or to provide a setting you chose.
Browser Settings
You can clear the Site's Cookies and storage at any time from your browser's settings. If you do, you will be signed out, your preferences will be reset, and you will be asked about Cookies again.
Most browsers also allow you to block Cookies or receive a notice before Cookies are stored. If you block strictly necessary Cookies, you may not be able to sign in or use parts of the Site.
8. GLOBAL PRIVACY CONTROL AND DO-NOT-TRACK SIGNALS
We do not sell or share personal information collected through Cookies, and we do not use Cookies for cross-site advertising. Where required by applicable law, we will honor valid opt-out preference signals, such as the Global Privacy Control (GPC).
Because there is not yet a universally accepted standard for "Do Not Track" signals, the Site may not respond to every DNT mechanism.
9. CALIFORNIA PRIVACY RIGHTS
Residents of California may have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), including rights to know, access, correct, and delete personal information, and to exercise these rights without discrimination.
We do not sell or share personal information collected through Cookies on the Site.
To exercise your rights, please see the RECF Privacy Policy or contact us using the details in Section 13.
10. EUROPEAN ECONOMIC AREA, UNITED KINGDOM, AND SWITZERLAND
If you are located in the European Economic Area ("EEA"), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we use only strictly necessary and preference Cookies unless you give consent through the cookie banner.
You may withdraw your consent at any time [through the cookie settings link at the bottom of each page / by clearing the Site's Cookies in your browser]. Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing conducted before consent was withdrawn.
11. HOW LONG COOKIES LAST
Session Cookies expire when you close your browser. Persistent Cookies and browser storage remain until they expire or you delete them. The length of time each Cookie lasts is shown in the table in Section 4.
12. CHANGES TO THIS COOKIE POLICY
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example if we add or remove Cookies. When material changes are made, we may provide notice through the Site or through other reasonable means.
The "Last Updated" date above reflects the effective date of the current version.
