πŸ“‹ General Information

Welcome to the STAR Warriors JROTC Robotics & Drone Skills Challenge, held in conjunction with the Annual SGP JROTC Drill Meet!

On behalf of our students, instructors, volunteers, and event staff, thank you for choosing to compete with us. This event is designed specifically for JROTC programs and provides cadets an opportunity to showcase their skills in robotics, drone operations, engineering, programming, teamwork, and leadership alongside the traditional events of the annual JROTC Drill Meet.

Our goal is to provide a professional, organized, and enjoyable competition where cadets can demonstrate the hard work they have put into their programs, challenge themselves, and compete alongside JROTC units from across the region.

JROTC Skills Competition

This event will operate as a Skills-focused competition rather than a traditional head-to-head robotics tournament.

Competition opportunities will include designated Skills fields for:

  • Achieve Robotics Competition

  • Aerial Drone Competition (ADC)

  • ADC Pro

Teams may complete eligible Skills attempts during the designated competition window in accordance with the rules and procedures applicable to their respective competition program.

This format is designed to allow JROTC units participating in the Drill Meet to incorporate robotics and drone competition into their day while still participating in other scheduled Drill Meet events.

JROTC-Only Event

Participation in the Robotics & Drone Skills Challenge is limited to eligible JROTC teams and cadets.

We recognize that many teams will also be participating in Drill Meet activities throughout the day. Teams should manage their schedules accordingly and report to the Robotics & Drone Skills area when they have sufficient time to complete their attempts without interfering with their other scheduled events.

Event Operations

Specific information regarding:

  • Check-in

  • Robot and drone inspection

  • Skills field locations

  • Competition windows

  • Campus maps

  • Parking and team drop-off

  • Awards

  • Event procedures

will be emailed to registered coaches/instructors and posted on the event page as the competition approaches.

Teams are responsible for reviewing the current rules and requirements for the competition program in which they are participating and should arrive with their robot or drone prepared for inspection and competition.

Celebrating JROTC Excellence

This event is about more than competition. It is an opportunity to recognize the leadership, discipline, teamwork, technical ability, and professionalism demonstrated by JROTC cadets.

Whether your cadets are experienced competitors or participating in their first robotics or drone event, we want every team to have an opportunity to compete, learn, represent their unit with pride, and leave with a positive experience.

Thank you for joining us for the Annual SGP JROTC Drill Meet and the STAR Warriors JROTC Robotics & Drone Skills Challenge. We look forward to welcoming your cadets and seeing what they accomplish!

⚠️ Emergency Info

Emergency Information

The safety and well-being of all participants, volunteers, and spectators is our highest priority. STAR Warriors events are conducted in cooperation with the host venue and local emergency services to provide a safe and enjoyable competition environment.

Medical Emergencies

If a participant or spectator experiences a medical emergency, immediately notify the nearest volunteer, Event Partner, or Tournament Director. Event staff will contact emergency medical services (EMS) if necessary and assist first responders in reaching the individual as quickly as possible.

For non-emergency first aid needs, please visit the Event Partner table or information desk.

Fire or Building Emergency

If the building must be evacuated, all participants should remain calm and follow directions provided by event staff, venue personnel, and emergency responders.

  • Exit the building using the nearest safe exit.

  • Coaches are responsible for ensuring all team members are accounted for.

  • Do not re-enter the building until emergency personnel have declared it safe.

Severe Weather

Should severe weather occur, announcements will be made over the public address system and through event staff.

Participants may be directed to designated interior shelter areas until conditions improve. Please remain with your team and follow all instructions from event staff.

Lost Student

If a student becomes separated from their team, notify the Event Partner immediately. Volunteers will assist in locating the student while maintaining the student's privacy and safety.

Lost and Found

Items found during the event should be turned in to the Event Partner table. Found items will be held for the duration of the tournament. Any unclaimed items may be retained by the host organization or disposed of after a reasonable period.

Emergency Contacts

Event Partner: Keenan Childs

In the event of an emergency requiring evacuation or shelter-in-place, official instructions from emergency responders and event staff take precedence over the published event schedule. We appreciate everyone's cooperation in helping us maintain a safe environment for all participants.

🧳 Travel Information

Travel Information

STAR Warriors is excited to welcome teams from across the region. To help ensure a smooth arrival and departure for everyone, please review the following travel information.

Travel Assistance

STAR Warriors does not provide travel assistance, lodging recommendations, or transportation arrangements for participating teams. Coaches are responsible for making their own travel plans and accommodations.

πŸ—“οΈ Agenda

Tentative Event Agenda

The STAR Warriors JROTC Robotics & Drone Skills Challenge is designed to operate alongside the Annual SGP JROTC Drill Meet. Because many cadets will be participating in multiple Drill Meet events, robotics and drone Skills will operate using scheduled time slots rather than a traditional tournament schedule.

This allows teams to plan their Skills attempts around drill, academics, physical fitness, and other scheduled events.

Skills Field Reservations

Teams will have the opportunity to reserve a Skills time slot online prior to the event.

A reservation link will be emailed to registered instructors/coaches before the Drill Meet. Teams are strongly encouraged to reserve a time in advance to ensure they have a competition window that works with their Drill Meet schedule.

Teams that do not reserve a time in advance may sign up on-site by scanning the QR code available at event check-in and near the Skills competition area.

Walk-up opportunities may also be available when field capacity permits.

Friday – Skills Competition

Field Hours: 4:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Available competition areas may include:

  • Achieve Robotics Skills

  • Aerial Drone Competition (ADC) Skills

  • ADC Pro Skills

Teams should report to their assigned Skills area approximately 10 minutes before their reserved time to ensure their equipment is ready and all required inspections have been completed.

Friday Skills will operate while regular school activities and other Drill Meet events are taking place.

Saturday – Skills Competition

Field Hours: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Skills fields will reopen Saturday for scheduled competition attempts.

Teams should continue to use the online reservation system or on-site QR code to select available competition times.

Inspection

All robots and drones must pass inspection before completing an official Skills attempt.

Teams should allow sufficient time for inspection before their reserved field time. A reserved Skills time does not guarantee additional time for inspection.

Teams that arrive for their reservation without having completed inspection may be asked to move to a later available time.

Reserved Time Slots

Teams are responsible for managing their Drill Meet schedules and selecting reservation times that do not conflict with other events.

Please:

  • Arrive approximately 10 minutes before your scheduled time.

  • Have your robot or drone inspected before your reservation.

  • Have batteries charged and equipment competition-ready.

  • Notify event staff if you know you will miss your reservation.

  • Avoid reserving multiple unnecessary time slots that could prevent another team from competing.

If a team misses its reservation, event staff will make every reasonable effort to provide another opportunity; however, another time slot cannot be guaranteed.

Schedule Flexibility

Field availability and competition times may be adjusted based on participation, equipment availability, the overall Drill Meet schedule, and event conditions.

Announcements and instructions provided by event officials during the event will take precedence over the published schedule.

Our goal is to give every participating JROTC team a fair opportunity to complete their Skills attempts while allowing cadets to participate fully in the other activities of the Annual SGP JROTC Drill Meet.

βš™οΈ Judging Format

Inspection Information

There will be no judged awards, Engineering Notebook review, or team interviews at the STAR Warriors JROTC Robotics & Drone Skills Challenge. This event is focused on competition performance and Skills results.

Inspection Required

All robots and drones must successfully pass the appropriate official inspection before participating in any Skills attempts.

Inspection will be conducted using the current inspection requirements and checklist for the applicable competition program:

  • Achieve Robotics Competition

  • Aerial Drone Competition (ADC)

  • ADC Pro

Teams are strongly encouraged to review the current rules and complete a self-inspection before arriving at the event.

Inspection Process

Teams should report to the designated inspection area after checking in. Please bring your complete, competition-ready robot or drone along with any equipment necessary to complete inspection.

If a robot or drone does not initially pass inspection, the inspection staff will identify the items that need to be corrected. Teams may make the necessary adjustments and return for reinspection.

Teams may not complete an official Skills attempt until their robot or drone has passed inspection.

Maintaining Compliance

Passing inspection confirms that the robot or drone met the applicable requirements at the time it was inspected. Teams remain responsible for maintaining compliance throughout the event.

If significant modifications or repairs are made after inspection, event officials may require the equipment to be reinspected before additional Skills attempts are completed.

Plan Ahead

Because cadets may also be participating in other events during the Annual JROTC Drill Meet, teams should plan sufficient time for inspection before attempting Skills runs.

Completing a self-inspection before arriving will help keep the process moving efficiently and maximize the time available for competition.

Our inspectors are volunteers working to help teams get onto the field safely and successfully. Please treat them with courtesy and respect and follow their instructions throughout the inspection process.
